Spring Arts Festival – Band Concerts

Day 2 of the Spring Arts Festival was a huge success! It was a great night of music from all across time, ranging from the 1940s up to 2011. This concert featured the Jr. High Band, High School Band, and High School Jazz Bands.

Jazz Band was featured in only their second year of existence, playing a range of jazz styles represented in, ‘A Nigh in Tunisia’, ‘Fly Me to the Moon’, and ‘Jazz Police’. This jazz combo was comprised of a number of members from the high school concert band and featured soloist Travis Evans on trumpet.

Jr. High Band was made up of students in all walks of musical skill. Some of these students had just started playing instruments this year while others have been playing for years. This group played a fun and exciting set, including ‘Midnight Mission’, ‘Jubilance’, ‘Mystique’, ‘The Curse of Tutankhamun’, and ‘Majestica’. Keeping up with the theme, these pieces ranged from the mid ’80s to the mid 2000’s.

High School Band put on a phenomenal show with famous works such as ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’, ‘On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss’, and ‘Jupiter’. This challenging concert also included the pieces, ‘Among the Clouds’, ‘Olympiada’, ‘Atlantis: The Lost Continent’, and ‘Foundry’. Director Christopher Holtzem said, “I’m so proud of all three ensembles. This was a very challenging concert all around and I couldn’t be happier with each groups’ growth over the past semester as they knocked this concert out of the park.”
