Speech & Debate ASU Tournament

The Prep’s Speech and Debate team continued its success at the ASU Southwest Speech and Debate Championships. The tournament was the largest in Arizona and competition included competitors from six states. Zachary Hugo topped the Prep’s finishers by winning Poetry Interpretation, placing 3rd in Duo Interpretation with his partner, Tommee Gleason, finishing 5th in Original Oratory and was a finalist in Congressional Debate. After 45 hours of competition in three days, the team was over-all pleased with the awards that they earned. “ I am so excited for the seniors, Zach Hugo, Tommee Gleason, Holly Bernstein and Troy Tauscher, who have competed at this tournament for four years, and who have all taken home awards; it’s impressive,” said Coach Richards. “I am also pleased with Amy Lavelle, Vincent Jasso and Kaitlyn Kief’s performances, as this is their first year of competition and they left with awards in hand.”
